David died in September 2006.  The service was held at Christ the King Church in Oklahoma City on September 15th.  A number of people from our class attended:  Bob Bates, Breck Hulsey, John Parrish, David Sampson, and Mike Shelby to name a few.  A large group of David's Beta brothers from OU also attended.  His cousins from Massachusetts flew down and one led everyone in a Kaddish prayer for David.  David's brother in law, Hal Holliday (in David's Beta pledge class), read several scripture lessons.  Stanley was there - in good health, Johnny having died a year or two before.  Becky and her husband were up from Dallas.  Becky's husband and Mike Shelby eulogized David and many recollections of David's athleticism and good times.  His wife Sharon, son Ben, and daughter Anna welcomed everyone at a reception afterwards.  We miss David and his ready laugh.  He thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by his friends and was always a great audience.

I first became aquainted with David at Grand Avenue Elementary and Little League baseball.  We played on the same baseball team all the way through the American Legion program.  David was a good friend all the way from grade school, Jr. high, High School and college.  Among many great memories, he got me a ticket to the "game of the century" when Nebraska beat OU on Thanksgiving day of 1971.

David was one of the most gifted natural athletes that I have known.  He was a legend at OU for all of the intrumural points that he accumulated for his fraternity.  It didn't matter if it was softball, basketball, tennis or ping pong, he was a natural.  He ended up playing the Japanese for the ping pong intrumural championship.

David was a real prankster and a good friend and I miss him.
